Wet Poop Solution
Wet poop for our dog kin comes from a similar origin to humans. Think about it: For those living in Western countries where wet poop and constipation is normalized because it is so common, wet poop with our dog kin is also calling our attention to:
a.) the biological health of the family lineage
b.) food consumption in the present
c.) unhealthy bugs living in the body
For a. and c., what our pup’s parents passed on to them and various bugs like bad bacteria and yeast, there is a solution that holistically supports our pup’s comfort, longevity, and ability to absorb nutrients. That is, probiotics for our dog kin are important because those being raised by us in Western countries have jacked-up guts just like many of the humans!
Humans in western countries need probiotic supplements (that are research-backed and actually work) in order to poop regular, stay healthy, maintain a balanced weight, etc. Doctors like Colleen Cutcliffe, Ph.D. are great at explaining this to the public.
Probiotics for dogs are a bit different than those for humans:
1. Dogs need these: Bacillus coagulans, Bifidobacterium animalis (strain AHC7), Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum (BL999), Enterococcus faecium (strain SF68), Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus casei.
2. Research on this good bacteria shows that when dog kin have these in their guts, they don’t suffer from wet poop, anxiety, etc.
Dry food isn’t the answer
Some keep their pups on dry kibble to prevent wet poop or ensure dry ish poop. But this simply delays the illnesses that the wet poop is a warning flag for. In fact, regarding b. above (food consumption), pups in the U.S. are getting food-like substances that create more problems for them.
It is widely known that toxic processing and food-like substances are the standard in dog kibble. Dr. Katie Woodley, a veterinarian in Colorado, provides the basics on how kibble is made. In general, relying on kibble to make a pup’s poop dry means relying on a problem to respond to a red flag warning about the health of the pup.
How to find a quality probiotic for our pups
The probiotic by Paw CBD is an option that we found. We found them for the quality of their probiotics and the quality of their full list of ingredients (e.g. there’s no canola oil which is from the automotive industry and shouldn’t be in anyone’s food!). They also provide quality assurance reports on all batches. Simply type in the batch number on your container and you can see the quality of ingredients in the probiotic.
More on dry food
We give our pup dry kibble that is organic. We use this brand. We do this because we travel so much that the dog sitter farm needs to keep things simple for all of the dogs they care for.
However, when we are home, we mix rice, bone broth, and ghee into her bowl with her kibble. At first, she had constant diarrhea with any of these three foods mixed into the kibble. After 30-days on the Paw CBD brand of probiotics, there’s only dry poop now! Yay! We now know that we just didn’t understand that the wet poop problem was caused by systemic issues in our pup’s body and the wet poop itself wasn’t the problem, it was the warning sign.
